Recently, I’ve been thinking of organising something that I would call “Startup Saturdays” at coFWD. I’m still working out what this would be but my definition of a “startup” is the result of creating something which can grow. This can be an event, company, idea, whatever you want. It is typically associated with technologically companies but doesn’t necessarily have to be. I chose to use the word “startup” with this as I like certain associations that the word has such as quick growth, excitement, changing the world, inspiring other people and the world we live in, calculated risk, decision making and more.

Here are some of the things that I would like to see happen at Startup Saturdays:

  • Watching of videos relating to the creation of startups.
  • Discussion based around startups.
  • Exploration of startup ideas and how we can help each other.
  • Working on startups of our own or those that we are involved in with groups (the benefit being that we are working on these in an environment where others are doing the same).

Please feel free to let me know if you would like to see other things happen at the Startup Saturday by commenting on this post or tweeting me (@becomeknown).

If you have something that you would like to discuss that you have been working on for years please do not think that “Startup Saturdays” is not for you as I think it would be of use. I like to think of “Startups” as more of a mentality than anything else.

I am not 100% sure of what exactly “Startup Saturdays” is but wanted to start something up and will see what it evolves into.

On Saturday 4th August from 1pm until 3pm I am organising the first “Startup Saturday”. I am not sure what this will involve exactly but I would personally like to watch an interesting video relating to startups and entrepreneurship then have a discussion based around this and startups in general.

Please note, our venue (http://coFWD.org) is a very old bank building that is being slowly shaped by a community of individuals for long-term Community Interest. Sadly the startup project is in its infancy and being run on limited funds so the building currently has some accessibility issues. If you have specific access or disability requirements and would like to participate in an event or activity please let us know at least 5 days before the event date so that we can do our utmost to resolve any potential problems to accommodate.

If you are intending on coming to this, please sign up on the Eventbrite page.
